Egyptians, what do you think of this ....... ??
Some time ago (around a year I guess) the government issued new coins, 50 piasters and 1 pound.
Then, lately, this month I guess, they issued a new bill, a 200 pounds bill!
Moreover, a 500 pounds bill is expected to be issued!!
Where do you think this leaves us? Is money losing its value, without us getting any more of it? Do you think one day we'l end up like Turkey or something, where the "1 pound" represents "1 piaster" ??
Money is losing its value in Egypt (inflation and devaluation of the Egyptian currency). However, that has nothing to do with the issuance of the new coins and bills.
U see, Central Bank Of Egypt, received various complaints from tourists as well as Egyptians in regards to the deteriorating state of its currency to the extent that u would want to wash yr hands after holding them. The main two currencies that were returned back to the bank either torn or just plain worn out was the 50 piasters and One Pound. The idea to change them into coins was much cheaper than having to dispose of those unusable currencies and reprint them, besides coins are more withstanding.
Now for the LE 200 and the proposed LE 500. They should have been around much earlier than this, there is even a consideration for the LE 1000 bill. These issuance will in turn save our other currencies from being worn out and are pretty less time consuming in change and keeping count.
I hope i helped.
Edit: We r still a long way to reach Turkey's money status, i was a millionaire over there when i changed a USD 50 to something like 7,000,000, but then again i bought a bottle of water for 300,000. Ha nice times.
